HOPE ROAD RESCUE
ROAD RESCUE
Hope Search and Rescue is one of three search and rescue groups in BC that has road rescue capabilities, specifically vehicle extrication, and embankment rope rescue. If there is a subject trapped in a vehicle or down an embankment on one of our busy highways we will be deployed with the jaws of life and specialized rope gear with our specially trained members.
THE GEAR WE USE
The tools we use for vehicle extrication are hydraulic rescue tools for cutting and spreading, also known as "The Jaws of Life." In order to use the jaws, we first have to stabilize the vehicle using a combination of hydraulic rams, large bracing struts, chains and cribbing.
For rope rescues, we use a specially designed winch system called a capstan winch along with a capture device called an MPD, to lower and raise rescuers to the subject.
